In Praise of Vending Machine Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

AVI’s Homemade Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

First, I need to tell you that the views stated herein are solely my own. No baked good should ignite such passion, yet this one does for me.

I might not buy cookies at every opportunity, but I am sure to check the cookie stock of stores or vending machines to see if there is anything new worth trying. I can usually anticipate their taste. This same principle is also at work when I walk past soda displays. I tried so many flavors of pop in my childhood that can imagine fairly well what a novel flavor would taste like, even a space odyssey like diet chocolate cream pie soda.

I thought I was past being surprised by any cookie until I tried AVI’s Homemade Peanut Butter Chip Cookies. You know that brassy ester that can’t seem be to eliminated from peanut butter cookies? Creating a peanut butter cookie that is free of this aftertaste seemed about as possible as making a mixed drink that doesn’t like alcohol. When someone raves that a particular drink doesn’t taste like liquor at all, I figure that they’ve had too much to drink.

Anyway, these peanut butter cookies have pulled off the impossible feat of having no weird aftertaste at all. Peanuts are actually in the ingredient list, so this cookie doesn’t just have artificial peanut flavor.

Every bite of these beauties tastes like a peanut butter chip or the inside of a Reese’s Piece, yet the confection as a whole is not too sweet. This is another small miracle.

These treats weigh in 3.25 oz and a vending pack includes two ample 4 inch cookies. I’d advise sharing one with a friend or stashing the spare for a second indulgence. There is nothing light or diet about these delights. I figure that if I am going to have a treat, I am not going to waste the empty calories on something that it is bland.

The perfection of this cookie is worth that slow fall off the wagon. There’s enough offered to linger on the flavor, bite by bite. It’s a good thing I encounter them just often enough that I seldom need to deny this temptation.
